WELCOME TO MO KHUISLE IRISH CANDLES

We are a husband and wife team based in the sunny southeast of Ireland. We are a small, but a unique passionate candle making business. All of our Candles are homemade and hand poured using non toxic soy wax. Irish ancestry and symbolism resides at our core, and can be seen throughout our finely handcrafted range.

Our Irish name, Mo Khuisle (My Pulse) is spelt with a K to coincide with our uniqueness. As can seen in all our products.

Our Story

There is One vulnerability each and every person has in common on this planet, whether you are from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England or Wales, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia/Oceania or North and South America, it does not matter, as our commonality is the exact same, that this life we are now living, will not last forever.
All we can do is be present and live in the now. It's all we have.

We have lost some of our nearest and dearest family members and friends over the years. Some old, some young. We have very often found ourselves lighting up a candle in their honour and to reflect and give thanks for the short, but great memories we shared on this earth.

From that reflection, and giving thanks we wanted to use a fitting Candle that was truly unique to Ireland, as after all we were honouring and giving thanks to our ancestors. A no small feat to accomplish by any means. With this in mind, we set out to make our own unique handmade Irish Candles.

Our scent names, such as Cú Chulainn, Éiru, Children of Lir, Oisín and Niamh of Tír na Nóg, all reflect our heritage from years gone. Stories of old about warriors and goddesses, great accomplishments and harsh times, wisdom, knowledge, love and passionate stories. Stories that have lived on for centuries, and hopefully through our extensive Candle range will live on for centuries more.

We all know a  Cú Chulainn, in a family member or a friend. A true warrior that battles on no matter what life throws at them, or a goddess like Niamh of Tír na Nóg that teaches us to cherish and value each and every moment in the now, as time stands still for no one.

On a lighter note, we have always enjoyed sitting by the candle light. Whether sharing a romantic magic summer night in, or a stormy winter evening together, or just taking a few moments for ourselves without any distractions to unwind and relax.

Life can be full on these days, and we believe it is more important now than ever to remind ourselves to switch off from the constant social distractions, amongst others, that seem to be ever present and take a few moments to relax and unwind.

There is nothing more rewarding and relaxing after your long hectic day than separating from those constant social distractions for those blissful moments. Lighting up your Mo Khuisle candle will fill your room with a true relaxing ambience and help relieve all that gathered stress, lighten the mood and help aid you to unwind.

Memory and Emotions

Smells of certain scented candles can stimulate the limbic system, the part of the brain that is home to our memory and emotions, and finding that certain scent can trigger a memory of a loved one, or a certain event in your life.

We hope and believe that our specific scents will honour those memories and emotions.

The importance of candle light

In 1616, Dublin authorities passed the "Candlelight Law" and this required that every 5th house had to display a candlelight within certain hours of the evening for the benefit of people using the streets after dark. Public lighting was first introduced in 1697. A company called Rathbornes Candles was contracted to light Dublin's streets at night. Candles were used for this purpose until the gas streetlamp was introduced in the early 1800's.

Withstanding the test of time

Long gone are the days where the reliance on candlelight was a necessity. From that necessity however we have come to acknowledge that Candlelight has played a significant role in other parts of our lives as we know it, apart from giving light over the past centuries. Such as it's use in meditation, enlightenment, rituals and creating a sacred space to name but a few. The flickering flame becomes the centre of your attention, and a beacon of hope, and where your attention goes your energy flows.

Our search for a worthy heritage candle

Over the past few years we have been constantly searching this great country of ours for a candle that honours our true Irish heritage, and is worthy of that label. Something unique and magical, like the Irish people themselves. We were searching for something that now seems to be as rare as hens teeth, some might say.

Some of the fabulous candles we have purchased and came across on our travels throughout Ireland are exceptional, and some of the aromas are sensational. Our aim is to outshine what is available at present, and some, with our true Irish heritage look, scent and attractiveness, that will no doubt honour our ancestors, whom were not so blessed to have the luxury of flicking on a switch, when they needed light.

That said and with our learned knowledge gathered, we have decided to take our craft to the next level and start our own unique small candle business that embraces our true Irish Heritage, and hopefully makes a proud statement to all whom purchase them, that although our ancestors may have passed, we will continue to light the way in their honour.

Our aim going forward

We believe that our unique Irish homemade candles are truly a worthy remembrance of our heritage, our ancestors, our culture, our symbols and our Irishness.

To all our customers and friends whom wish to use these candles with good intentions, mindfulness and appreciation, to light the way forward, in the now, we thank you

So as the Irish would say,
Here's to a long life, a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.

A pretty girl and an honest one.

A cold pint and another one.

Please drink sensibly
